"Direct Tax" books, 1865-1894.

This material consists of ten oversized ledger books. Five of the books are assessment books which contain names of persons who paid the tax, county of residence, date of payment and amount paid; as well as, information concerning refunds under the heading "Remarks and Description of Property." The other five books are the Tax Stub Receipt Books which show number and date of stub, amount paid, county, and by whom it was paid. Two books appear to be missing - the assessment of counties.
